“I am constantly living the good life. In fact, as the show goes to air, I am in Japan, savouring sashimi, fugu, sake, bathing in natural hot springs (onsen), climbing mountains and generally enjoying myself (major understatement). I am looking forward to divulging all my culinary secrets to everyone who tunes in. Education and a good laugh are also on the menu, but the staple is great healthy restaurant style food made easy for home cooks.”

Tony Shaw is renowned for his prowess on the football field. What people don’t know is that he is equally skilled in the garden. Back when footballers also needed a ‘real’ job, Tony undertook a short course on arboriculture and worked on the Collingwood City Council for 16 years. In this time he developed his love for landscaping and his passion for plants. Tony’s AFL exploits are widely known: he has played more games than any other Collingwood player in history, won two Copeland trophies, captained Collingwood’s famous 1990 Premiership Side and claimed the Norm Smith Medal.
Tony retired at the end of the 1994 season and was assistant coach to Leigh Matthews at the Magpies in 1995, before taking over the top job in 1996. Since retiring from the game he has remained a familiar face, appearing on a wide variety of football talk shows including Four Quarters and The Game. Tony is married to Debbie and is a father of three. As host of the gardening segment on Guide to the Good Life, you’ll see that Tony’s passion extends well beyond the football field.
